Tom Cruise is to star in 'The Last Samurai', a film which chronicles the decline of the warrior class in 19th Century Japan.
Variety reports that Cruise will play a Westerner who travels to Japan to teach the Samurai new fighting techniques but learns about their code.
The film, described as a "period epic", will be directed by Edward Zwick, who in the past has made such films as 'Glory' and 'Legends of the Fall'.
The script for 'The Last Samurai' was written by John Logan who also penned 'Gladiator'.
