The actor John Thaw has died at the age of 60.
Thaw had been suffering from cancer of the oesophagus and died at his home in Wiltshire yesterday.
Best known for his portrayal of Inspector Morse in the television series of the same name, a part he played for 13 years, Thaw's breakthrough role was as a tough policeman in cult seventies show 'The Sweeney'.
He is survived by his wife, the actress Sheila Hancock, and three daughters.
