Caine in Ireland for The Actors

The English actor Michael Caine has arrived in Ireland to begin work on a new film written and directed by Irish playwright Conor McPherson.

Reportedly based on an idea by Neil Jordan, 'The Actors' tells the story of a struggling Irish actor trying to get a friend out of trouble with a gangster, as things go wrong the actor has to play more and more roles to cover his tracks.

It is understood that the £5m film will be made at Ardmore Studios by Neil Jordan's production company, Company of Wolves; Jordan will also produce.

McPherson wrote and directed the film 'Saltwater' and was also the screenwriter on 'I Went Down', which starred Brendan Gleeson.

'The Actors' is due for release in 2003.
