Glastonbury 2002 to go ahead

Organiser Michael Eavis recently gave the Mean Fiddler music group, who are behind the Reading Festival, a 20% stake in Glastonbury in return for their security and organisational expertise. The event has taken place annually on Eavis' Somerset farm since 1970 but has been dogged by security and public safety problems.

Yesterday Eavis announced that he was unsure of whether to proceed with the Mean Fiddler deal. Mendip District Council, the body responsible for granting a license to the festival, expressed concerns about security if the Mean Fiddler was not involved.

This afternoon Eavis announced that the Mean Fiddler deal was still in place and that Glastonbury would go ahead.
