Scott retrospective unveiled in Dublin

A retrospective exhibition of the paintings and tapestries of Cork-born artist, designer and architect Patrick Scott has opened at Dublin's Hugh Lane Gallery.

One of the first Irish exponents of pure abstraction, Scott is one of the most influential abstract artists in the world although he is also recognised as an innovative interpreter of landscape.

An architect by training, Scott changed the face of Dublin city with the design of buildings that include the main bus station, Busaras.

As a designer he was responsible for Iarnrod Eireann's current mainline train colours – using the black, orange and white of his pet cat as a colour scheme.

The first exhibition of Scott's work since a touring show, which took in Dublin, Cork and Belfast twenty years ago, the Patrick Scott Retrospective celebrates the artist's eightieth year and reflects six decades of his ongoing work.

The Patrick Scott Retrospective runs at the Hugh Lane Gallery, Dublin until 28 April.
