EMI denies Mariah faces drop

Record label EMI has denied press reports that it wants to buy singer Mariah Carey out of her contract.

The label said today that no such agreement was in place or no payment had been made.

Carey signed to EMI imprint Virgin Records in April 2001 in a deal thought to be worth between $80 and $118m.

However, her first album for the label, 'Glitter', performed poorly, selling only 2m copies worldwide.
