The Los Angeles Times has reported that EMI Plc, the company which owns Virgin Records, has offered Mariah Carey a lump sump to leave the label.
Carey's first album for Virgin, 'Glitter', performed poorly when it was released in the Autumn, selling only 2m copies worldwide.
Carey signed with Virgin last Spring in a deal thought to be worth between $80 and $118m.
There has been no comment from either Virgin or Carey on the story.
