The British actor Sir Nigel Hawthorne has died of a heart attack at his Hertfordshire home.
He was 72 and had been battling cancer for 18 months.
Hawthorne won acclaim for his role as Sir Humphrey Appleby in the series 'Yes, Minister' and was nominated for an Oscar for his lead performance in 'The Madness of King George'.
He won a Tony award in 1991 for his onstage portrayal of CS Lewis in 'Shadowlands' and was knighted in 1999.
