X-Files star lobbies Turkey on animal rights

'X-Files' star Gillian Anderson has written to the Turkish Prime Minister to draw attention to the country's animal rights record.

American magazine TV Guide reports that Anderson wrote to Bulent Ecevit, calling for laws to protect animals and highlighting the suffering of dogs and camels.

Anderson, who is a member of the group People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals, told Prime Minister Ecevit that she was shocked that animals in Turkey had no legal protection from cruelty.
