Roberto Alagna and Angela Gheorghiu have been invited to sing at the summer 2002 Salzburg Festival.
The tenor and his wife, a soprano, will make their Salzburg debut with Gounod's 'Romeo et Juliette' on August 20 and 24.
Also participating in the festival for the first time, Bertrand de Billy will conduct the concert performance.
The festival, directed by the composer Peter Ruzicka, will present six operas in staged productions, and two in concert form.
