The Strokes' debut album 'Is This It' has been voted the album of the year by music weekly NME.
The New York quintet, who have enjoyed a meteoric rise to fame, now join an honour roll of previous winners like Nirvana, Oasis and Beck.
NME's Top 50 albums of 2001 include Spiritualized's 'Let It Come Down' at Number 2, Slipknot's 'Iowa' at Number 6, Destiny's Child's 'Survivor' at Number 15, Radiohead's 'Amnesiac' at Number 25, Mark Lanegan's 'Field Songs' at Number 27 and late soul singer Aaliyah's eponymous album at Number 39.
