A batch of letters author JD Salinger wrote to his daughter are to be auctioned in Sothebys of New York.
The 32 letters and cards were written to Margaret Salinger over a period of 35 years and are expected to sell for around £245,000 on December 12.
A Sotheby's spokesperson said that the letters give an insight into Salinger's relationship with his daughter as a child and his attempts to connect with her as an adult.
Salinger's last book was published in 1965 and his desire to guard his privacy has made him one of literature's great enigmas.
According to The Guardian newspaper, people who see the letters must sign an agreement not to quote from them, for fear of a copyright infringement lawsuit.
