Detroit councillors have objected to plans to burn down a derelict house in the city as part of a key scene in the upcoming Eminem movie.
Councillors in the Highland Park area voted against the razing of the house and locals have also staged a protest.
However, according to newspaper reports, the council's financial manager has the final say and has backed the plan.
In return for being allowed to shoot the scene, the producers of the film have pledged to donate $2,000 to a local charity, give a talk to school students on the movie business and demolish three other vacant homes in the area.
Eminem plays a young rapper on the road to success in the film with Oscar winner Kim Basinger playing his mother.
The as yet untitled movie is being directed by LA Confidential helmer Curtis Hanson.
It is set for release next summer.
