IMMA Board members resign

Two board members at IMMA have resigned in protest at the manner in which a new director is to be appointed.

Minister for Arts, Culture, Gaeltacht and the Islands, Sile De Valera, is set to intervene in the dispute about the manner of the appointment.

The position of Director has been vacant since the controversial resignation of Declan McGonigle.

At a meeting of the board on Monday, Chairperson Mary Donnelly proposed the appointed of Dr. Brian Kennedy, currently director of the National Gallery of Australia.

This was deemed contrary to the idea of appointing a director through an interview panel and board members Neil Crowley and Terry Prone resigned.

Both members have written to the Minister to complain and it is excepted that Sile de Valera will attempt to resolve the issue.
