Ohga collapses in Beijing

Norio Ohga, chairman of Sony Corporation, is in a stable condition in hospital after collapsing while conducting the Tokyo Philharmonic Orchestra at the Beijing Music Festival.

Ohga, who was invited to conduct two concerts as grand finales of the festival, slumped over at the end of the second movement of Tchaikovsky’s fifth symphony.

Emergency personnel arrived soon after and a doctor from the audience also assisted the conductor.

Yu Long, artistic director of Beijing Music Festival, took up the baton after the incident and finished the performance of Tchaikovsky’s symphony.
