The battle of the soaps has been won by 'EastEnders', at this year's British TV awards, ending a successful four-year run for rival 'Coronation Street'.
There was further success for the London-based soap with Jessie Wallace being named Most Popular Newcomer for her role as Kat Slater.
The other big showdown of the evening was for the Most Popular Television Quiz award, which went to 'Who Wants To Be A Millionaire?' for the third year running, beating competition from 'The Weakest Link'.
