Glastonbury seeks crowd increase licence

The UK's Glastonbury Festival is seeking a licence to increase the size of the crowd to 135,000.

Organisers of the three-day event say they need to sell extra tickets to cover rising costs.

Festival organiser Michael Eavis is to spend an additional £1.5 million to build a 12ft high steel fence around the site to keep gatecrashers out.

The last time the festival was held in June 2000, its public entertainment licence allowed a maximum crowd of 105,000. Council officials estimated there were 200,000 at the event at Worthy Farm, Pilton, Somerset.

In March, Eavis was fined £6,000 by magistrates for breaching his licence conditions. There was no Glastonbury festival this year following the security problems.
