Australian writer Peter Carey has won this year's prestigious Booker Prize for his novel 'True History Of The Kelly Gang'.
The winner of the world's leading literary prize was announced at a Gala ceremony in London's Guildhall last night.
Carey won the prestigious prize in 1988 for 'Oscar and Lucinda' and was favourie with the bookies to win this year's award.
Ian McEwan's novel 'Atonement' had also been hotly tipped to take the prize.
The book is a fictional account of Australia's infamous anti-hero, Ned Kelly who was an orphan, horse thief, farmer, bush ranger, bank robber, police killer and finally Australia's mythical hero figure.
Carey also received a cheque for £21,000.
