Amélie a hit with UK audiences

French film ‘Amélie’ has overtaken ‘Cyrano De Bergerac’ with the highest ever opening for a French-language film at the British box office.

Jean-Pierre Jeunet’s film failed to keep ‘Moulin Rouge’ off the top spot over the weekend, but it easily outclassed Sylvester Stallone’s ‘Driven’ and ‘Original Sin’, starring Angelina Jolie and Antonio Banderas.

‘Amélie’ is now second only to ‘Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon’ as the most successful foreign film ever in the UK.
