Bob Hope in pneumonia scare

Veteran entertainer Bob Hope is expected to be released from hospital soon after being treated for “mild” pneumonia.

The comedian’s publicist, Ward Grant, said the 98-year-old was admitted to hospital on Sunday night after suffering from breathing difficulties at his home in North Hollywood. Hope was initially placed in intensive care but has since been moved to a private room.

“According to his doctor, he's responding to treatment, his health has improved and he's in stable condition, and we expect to have him home in a few days,” said Mr Grant.

Starting out as a dancer and comedian, Bob Hope has starred in more than fifty feature films, the most popular of which were the ‘Road To...’ movies with Bing Crosby and Dorothy Lamour.

A recipient of five Oscars, Hope was knighted in 1998.
