The R&B diva Aaliyah has died along with seven other people in a plane crash in the Bahamas.
The 22-year-old singer was returning to the US after shooting a video in the Abaco Islands when her plane burst into flames shortly after take off.
Police believe that engine failure was the cause of the crash.
Aaliyah Haughton was born in New York but raised in Detroit and made her first album 'Age Ain't Nothing But a Number' when she was 15.
She made her acting debut in the martial arts romance 'Romeo Must Die' and was set to appear in the sequel to 'The Matrix'.
She had completed work on another film, 'Queen of the Damned', with Irish star Stuart Townsend shortly before her death.
Aaliyah's self titled third album was released last month to widespread acclaim.
