Russian director Rostotsky dies

The Russian film director, Stanislav Rostotsky, has died at the age of 79.

Rostotsky trained under the legendary Soviet film director Eisenstein, making his directorial debut in 1956.

His films depicted life in the Soviet Union from World War Two until the reforming era of Gorbachev.

He suffered heart failure the day before opening a Russian film festival.
