Bob Geldof has described how his devotion to his children forced to him to cope with the intense physical pain of his marriage breakdown to Paula Yates and the tragedy of her recent death.
Speaking about the events of the last five years, the star said that at his lowest he had wanted to run off to some grey corner of the planet and howl into the void.
Geldof and Yates' 10-year marriage came to an end when she left him for Michael Hutchence.
He died in a Sydney hotel in 1997 and when Yates died of a heroin overdose last September, Geldof took on the responsibility of bringing up their daughter Tiger Lily.
