The dodgy second hand car dealer left the show nine months ago after his screen wife Peggy discovered he had been unfaithful with his ex-wife Pat.
The actor, Mike Reid said his health had suffered because of the gruelling filming schedule.
Four episodes, which will see Frank bump into Peggy in Spain, will be shown in the autumn.
