American rap star Eminem faces a character check before Australia will approve a visa for him, according to the Immigration Minister Philip Ruddock.
Eminem is due to perform in Sydney and Melbourne next month but has not applied for a visa yet.
The Australian Family Association has called for the singer to be barred from entering the country because of his controversial lyrics.
However the minister declined to comment on whether or not any application would be approved.
