Former IMMA director got almost £460,000

A Sunday newspaper has revealed that the former Director of the Irish Museum of Modern Art, Declan McGonagle, received a package worth almost £460,000 following the non-renewal of his contract by the museum.

It had been widely reported that McGonagle had been compensated by a payment of IR£250,000, details of the actual sum were obtained by the Sunday Times newspaper under the Freedom of Information Act.

The deal, approved by the Department of Finance last month, totals £457,850 and includes five years' salary, five years' pension, five years' housing subsidy, a car, legal costs, and the cost of a 2-hour consultation with tax advisers.
