The best selling author Frederick Forsyth has sold nine paintings by L-S Lowry.
The collection was auctioned for £1.7m at Christies.
The 62-year-old novelist, who wrote 'The Day of the Jackal' and 'The Odessa File' said that the novelty of the paintings had worn off.
Among the paintings was a Northern River Scene which is a panoramic of the city of Lincoln.
It was expected to fetch about £300,000 but eventually sold for nearly £500,000.
