U2 lose out to Craig David at Novello awards

U2 have lost out to English soul star Craig David at this year's Ivor Novello Awards in London.

U2’s 'Beautiful Day' was up against David’s ‘Seven Days’ and David Gray's 'Please Forgive Me' for the Best Contemporary Song award.

David also shared the award for Songwriter of the Year with his collaborator Mark Hill; and the Dance Award with Artful Dodger for his contribution to the hit 'Woman Trouble'.

David Gray made up for losing out to David by picking up the gong for Best Song (Musically and Lyrically) for 'Please Forgive Me'.

'Can We Fix It?' by children's favourite Bob the Builder won the award for Best Selling UK Single.

Among the other artists honoured at the awards were The Who guitarist Pete Townshend (Lifetime Achievement), The Clash (Outstanding Contribution To British Music) and composer John Barry (The Academy Fellowship).
