Glen Dimplex award show opens at IMMA

An exhibition of works by the four artists shortlisted for the £15,000 Glen Dimplex Artists Awards 2001 opens to the public at the Irish Museum of Modern art on Friday May 18.

The show features work by American film maker and sculptor Matthew Barney, British photographic artists Richard Billingham, Irish painter Elizabeth Magill and Belfast-based sound and installation artist Susan Philipsz. Each will present a series of new and recent works, some of which are being shown in Ireland for the first time.

The presentation of the Glen Dimplex Award will be made at a dinner at the museum on Friday, May 25. The exhibition continues until October 29, 2001.

Matthew Barney is best known for the 'Cremaster' film series; Richard Billingham's photographs focus on his family and the urban environment around his home; Elizabeth Magill's most recent body of work investigates and questions the traditions of landscape painting; and Susan Philipsz' work deals with the spatial properties of sound and the relationships between sound and architecture.
