Downey Jr to escape prosecution

Robert Downey Jr will not be prosecuted following his latest arrest last month.

Despite forensic tests proving that the actor had cocaine in his bloodstream, the latest incident will be treated as a violation of parole rather than a new charge.

A parole violation can incur a prison sentence but California state officials ruled out this possibility on Monday.

Downey Jr was released from prison in August 2000 having completed 14 months of a three-year sentence for drug offences.
