The singer Perry Como has died in his sleep at his home in Florida.
Mr Como was 88 and had been ill for some time.
One of thirteen children, he began his career by serenading customers in a barber shop.
He soared to fame with a laidback singing style which remained popular from the swing era of the 1930's right through to the modern easy listening revival.
With a string of hits like 'Magic Moments', 'Catch A Falling Star' and 'Winter Wonderland', the singer was one of the biggest stars of the 1950's and he was considered a rival to greats like Bing Crosby, Frank Sinatra and Tony Bennett.
He would later become a star of American television with his annual Christmas show attracting millions of viewers.
