This year year's Cannes Film Festival will open with 'Moulin Rouge'starring Nicole Kidman and Ewan McGregor. The film, a musical directed by Australian Baz Luhrmann, will be competing for the prestigious Palme d'Or award at the festival, which opens on 9 May.
Luhrmann, who also directed Leonardo Di Caprio and Claire Danes in 'Romeo and Juliet', launched his first film 'Strictly Ballroom' at Cannes. In his latest, Nicole Kidman plays Satine, leader of the famous Moulin Rouge chorus girls, McGregor plays Christian, a penniless poet who falls in love with Satine. The film also stars John Leguizamo as the artist Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec.
