Lawyers for actor Robert Downey Jr have told a judge that they cannot reach a plea agreement with prosecutors on drug possession charges and he now faces a trial in which he could go to jail for almost five years. A preliminary hearing date has been set for the April 30. Mr Downey was not in court yesterday for the brief hearing after his arrest at a posh Palm Springs hotel last November when police allegedly found cocaine and the prescription drug Valium in his room. The arrest came just three months after his release from prison after serving a year in jail for previous drug charges.
