A public meeting is to be held in Clonmel, County Tipperary, this Thursday to discuss the proposed sale of the Regal Theatre. The theatre, where the tenor Frank Patterson made his stage debut, is one of the town's best known landmarks and has attracted audiences for more than 70 years. So far, attempts to find buyers prepared to keep it running as a performance venue have failed. It now looks likely that the Regal will be sold for commercial development.
