'My Favourite Martian' actor dies

Actor Ray Walston has died at his Beverly Hills home; he was 86. The award-winning actor was best known as Uncle Martin from the 1960s television series My Favourite Martian. Walston won a Tony award in 1955 for his role as the devil in the Broadway hit Damn Yankees; he won Emmy awards in 1995 and 1996 for the part of Judge Henry Bone in the TV series Picket Fences. In My Favourite Martian, Walston played opposite Bill Bixby as a Martian stranded on planet Earth. The three-year series went off the air in 1966.

After his television success Walston also starred in The Sting (1973); Popeye (1980), as Poopdeck Pappy; Fast Times at Ridgemont High (1982); he played a cameo role in a 1999 film version of My Favourite Martian.
