Berlin Deutsche Oper manager dies aged 70

The manager and director-general of Berlin's Deutsche Oper, one of the city's leading opera houses, Goetz Friedrich, has died at the age of 70. He had managed the opera house in West Berlin since 1981. Mr Friedrich won a reputation as a multi-faceted, stylish but precise director of both classical and contemporary light opera, and was highly prolific in his productions, both in Germany and worldwide.
