Actor Robert Downey Jr has been charged with drug offences arising from his arrest last month in Palm Springs, California. The 35-year-old, who received an Oscar nomination as best actor for his role in the biopic 'Chaplin', was detained when police raided the hotel room where he was staying and found a small quantity of cocaine. If convicted, he could face up to four years and eight months in prison. Mr Downey's arrest came just three months after he ended a year-long prison stay for a previous possession conviction. The actor is currently free on $15,000 bail and is due in court on December 27 when he is expected to plead not guilty to the charges.
