A strike by backstage technicians at the Paris Opera on Wednesday looks set to drag on through the busy Christmas season. Unions have warned that the strike will last until 21 January unless their demands over the introduction of a shorter 35-hour working week are met. 40 performances are scheduled during that period with many already sold out. Set changes and stage backgrounds have already been missing from some productions as a result of the work stoppage.
