French director Vadim dies

The French film director Roger Vadim, who discovered Brigitte Bardot and was linked to some of the world's most beautiful women, has died of cancer aged 72. Vadim made his debut as a director in 1956 with the then outrageous 'And God Created Woman', which launched the career of his teenage wife, Brigitte Bardot. His four subsequent wives included Jane Fonda, whom he featured in the science-fiction spoof Barbarella, and Danish starlet Annette Stroyberg. Vadim fathered a son with Catherine Deneuve, appeared in several films himself and was married to another actress, Marie-Christine Barrault, at the time of his death.
