It was announced today that, for the first time, the entire nineteen plays of Samuel Beckett will be filmed for television and the cinema. The films are being produced for RTÉ in association with Channel 4 and will cost a total of four and half million pounds. The project will bring together some of the most distinguished directors and actors in film and theatre, such as Neil Jordan, Sir Michael Gambon, Dame Judi Dench, John Hurt and Karel Reisz. When completed, the films will be sold to television stations world-wide.
