RTÉ authority asked to clarify move to close Cork radio

The RTÉ authority has been asked to clarify its position over the decision to close the Cork radio service. A delegation of Cork deputies led by the Lord Mayor, Damien Wallace, and the Chairman of Cork county council, Thomas Ryan, were told by RTÉ executives that their decision was based on a failure to extend the service's broadcasting hours and a poor transmission signal. At a later meeting, the Minister with responsibility for broadcasting, Síle de Valera, told the delegation that RTÉ had failed to provide her with a detailed submission, despite a request to do so.
