Young Offenders producer Julie Ryan attended MoJoCon 2017 and Vidacademy's Judie Russell spoke to MoJoCon about their new project, an RTÉ drama filmed on smartphones.
Set to air later this year, Are You Free? was shot entirely through mobile platforms, including Skype and FaceTime; the plot examines a family's relationships through mobile technology, and touches on hot topics like transgender and LGBTQ issues. "It was a massive learning curve for us", said Julie.
The cast includes actors Michelle Beamish, Hillary Rose, Michael Harding and Judy Donovan.
It's the first project of its kind for RTÉ. "They were intrigued at first," said Julie, "and wondering if I could pull it all off... the more passionate I got about the project, the more passionate they got."
The duo highlighted the benefits of MoJoCon: "We are coming up with loads of ideas here for content and storylines, now we know all the different apps we can use," said Judie. "A show like this might have been a bit of a joke before now, but not anymore."
