Rosh Hashanah, the two-day celebration of the Jewish New Year, is ending as the sun sets, just as Yom Kippur, the Day of Atonement, will begin at dusk on Sunday coming, September 27th. But tonight's play, which marks the high holydays, takes us back a century to the War of Independence and the city of Cork under curfew as the killings continue. A gunman on the run finds shelter from a British platoon in the tenement shtiebel of a Jewish pedlar who is studying Irish for a tour of the Munster Gaeltacht. Now the Christian Brother boy must assume the alias of Abel to disguise the mark of Cain.
The Irish Hebrew Lesson written by Wolf Mankowitz.
Featuring the late Peter Dix, Garvan McGrath, Michael Grennell and Jim Reid
