The An Post Irish Book Awards has marked its 20th anniversary with the release of a curated list of 60 books drawn from past category winners across fiction, non-fiction and children's literature.
The selection includes 20 titles in each category and was compiled through votes from booksellers across Ireland.
The list features works by authors such as Paul Murray, Sally Rooney, Roddy Doyle, Claire Keegan, Louise O’Neill and Fintan O’Toole, alongside a range of other acclaimed writers and illustrators.
The awards programme has invited members of the public to vote for their favourite titles from the list. Voting is now open and closes at 6pm on 13 April, with the final Top 20 favourite Irish books of the past two decades scheduled to be announced on 19 April.
Participants in the public vote will be entered into a prize draw, with prizes including National Book Tokens, book selections and tickets to the 2026 awards ceremony. Bookshops nationwide are also taking part in the initiative, hosting in-store displays highlighting the selected titles.
Since its establishment in 2006, the Irish Book Awards have recognised Irish writing across 18 categories, including Novel of the Year, Non-fiction, Children’s, Crime Fiction and Biography.
Hundreds of books are submitted annually, representing a broad range of genres and authors.
In addition to category awards, the programme presents the Bob Hughes Lifetime Achievement Award, which has previously been awarded to writers including Anne Enright, Colm Tóibín and Seamus Heaney.
The full list of selected titles is available on the awards’ official website.
