The Gate Theatre will live‑stream its acclaimed production Poor to secondary school students across Ireland later this month.
The screening, on Wednesday, 25 March, at 11am, is supported by basis.point and will be available free of charge to all participating schools.
A co‑production between the Gate Theatre and Belgrade Theatre Coventry, Poor is based on Katriona O'Sullivan’s memoir and has been adapted for the stage by Sonya Kelly.
Dramatising O'Sullivan's journey from poverty to academia, the production has been praised for its raw honesty, humour, and humanity.

Listen: Poor star Aisling O'Mara talks to Oliver Callan
Poor premiered at the 2025 Dublin Theatre Festival, playing to sold out houses for the entirity of its run. The current revival of the show at The Gate, which runs until April 26th, is also fully booked out.
Artistic Director and Co-CEO of the Gate Theatre, Róisín McBrinn, who also directs the production, said: "This is such an exciting moment for us at the Gate Theatre. When we did Poor the first time around in 2025, there were a small number of TY students who saw the show. The response was incredible.
"In the lead up to reviving it, we wanted to prioritise young people across the country and give them theopportunity to experience this theatrical journey, to consider their own circumstances and thestruggles they or their peers may be experiencing. We hope they have a transformative experience!"
Schools wishing to participate in the live stream are asked to register by emailing boxoffice@gate-theatre.ie no later than Friday, 20th March.
