Why Arthur Miller's The Crucible feels more timely than ever

It's 1692 and the puritan town of Salem, Massachusetts is gripped by mass hysteria. Arthur Miller's Tony award-winning classic The Crucible begins with a sick child, and ends up with 200 people accused of witchcraft and a community ripped apart.

Andrew Flynn directs a new production of Miller's play at Dublin’s Gaiety Theatre next month. It has an impressive cast – rising star Niamh McCormack plays Abigail Williams, Charlene McKenna and Adam Rothenberg are John and Elizabeth Proctor, Rory Nolan is Rev John Hale and screen veteran Andrew McCarthy plays Deputy Governor Danforth.

The Crucible is at The Gaiety Theatre, Dublin from 9th Feb - 21st Mar 2026 - find out more here, and listen to more from Arena here
