Known as the 'painter of light', JMW Turner is considered to be one of the greatest landscape artists of all time. Channeling raw, elemental forces, his atmospheric paintings illuminated the natural world and revolutionised British art.
Turner as Inspiration is an exhibition currently running at the National Gallery Of Ireland (where Turner's work features every January, a longstanding tradition at NGI) featuring a collection of his watercolours which have been recently welcomed back following their loan to the National Galleries of Scotland.
In this current exhibition, the paintings feature alongside the works of artists who have been inspired by this most influential of artists. Anne Hodge, Curator of Prints and Drawings at the National Gallery of Ireland spoke to Rick O'Shea for Arena - listen above.
