The BRAT is back: Charli XCX returns with Chains Of Love
The BRAT is back: Charli XCX returns with Chains Of Love

Film, food, fashion, music - it's all culture... Popular Instagram account No Filler cuts through the internet noise, with weekly lists from curator Anthony Remedy and guest creatives based at home and abroad. Anthony brings you his latest list below...

Charli XCX - Chains of Love

I often bring up Spike Lee's documentary Bad 25 when asking the question: Where do you go after a gigantic critical and cultural success? In Michael Jackson's story, after the biggest LP ever, how do you follow up Thriller? Other artists may have watched Lee's doc for inspiration. Margot Robbie after Barbie, perhaps? Kendrick after Not Like Us? What would Charli XCX do after the cultural and commercial phenomenon of BRAT? She returns with Wuthering Heights in Feb 2026, an album accompanying Emerald Fennell's forthcoming adaptation of Emily Brontë's novel. Two tracks have been released, one with John Cale, but the other - Chains of Love - I adore. A move away from the tongue-in-cheek lo-fi electronic beats of BRAT, to sweeping cinematic, heartfelt soundscapes. It reminds me of Berlin's Take My Breath Away, and I mean that in the most positive way. Adore.

Lauren Sherman interviews renowned stylist Kate Young on the Fashion People podcast

As Lauren Sherman puts it, top-tier stylist Kate Young is "very good at saying a lot, without getting into trouble". Stylist to the likes of Dakota Johnson, Rose Byrne Julianne Moore, Scarlett Johansson and more, Young gives us straight-talking insights into the likes of Alessendro Michele's Valentino, of which she describes the quality of the clothes as 'dazzling" and 'his eye is weird and refreshing" to her thoughts on the original Devil Wears Prada (which she walked out of), JWA's Dior and buying Phoebe Philo over Cos. Similar to Es Devlin (another No Filler fav), Kate Young is one of those people I would listen to for hours. Also, on a separate note, Sherman was recently interviewed and shot for Interview Magazine, and I love how happy she was with it. It's refreshing when people are genuinely excited! Congrats, Lauren.

Brian Lloyd's Screenland podcast

Recorded at his home, often with his dog Eddie in the background barking at passers by, film critic Brian Lloyd's weekly round-up of films gives us a local take on what's happening in movieland. Lloyd's curt but sincere views are akin to listening to his inner monologue, a welcome change from over-produced, glitzy, whizz-bang pop podcasts. Weekly guests, too (Full disclosure: I've been on it once). I love listening, maybe you will too. Tell us what you really think, Brian...

The Hoxton, Dublin (and dogs in hotels)

"But in Europe, dogs are welcome everywhere!". As a dog owner, this isn't the case here. Getting better, yes, but more to be done! When I have time, I will go into the row I had with a security guard in a well-known store, threatening to call the Guards over my Bichon Frise Teddy Bear (go ahead, I'm sure they'll send the riot police), but let's not get sidetracked. You want to get cute fuzzy content ahead of your hotel launch? Allow dogs, it's that simple. The Hoxton, opening this week in Dublin 2, got the brief. Our Teddy Bear enjoyed his time at the Hoxton (formerly the much-loved Central Hotel) was allowed to stay over, sit in the bar and even in the restaurant. Allowed everywhere! Hoxton, you have two new regulars.

Pluribus on Apple TV

Breaking Bad creator Vince Gilligan's new show on Apple TV grabs you in the first 10 minutes and doesn't let go. Is it the best debut episode of a TV series in a while? I think so! Starring Rhea Seehorn (Kim Wexler from Gilligan's Better Call Saul), this black comedy explores loneliness in the midst of an alien invasion. It may hit harder post-COVID. It is thoughtful and reflective, but also laugh-out-loud funny and weird. Sounds great, right? The first three episodes are now on Apple TV. Also, a hat tip to Finneas' new mnemonic (a very short piece of music, 5 seconds, 10 seconds - I had to look up what it's actually called) that plays at the beginning of all Apple shows. Clean and timeless.

It's Cool to Have No Followers Now - article by Kyle Chayka in The New Yorker

As we enter the decline of social media, which has been on the cards for quite some time, it's becoming evident that follower numbers don't have the relevance or the reverence they used to. Should you believe someone because they have millions of followers? Do they know more than you or me about a subject, or did they just go viral for some reason 10 years ago? Did they buy their followers? Are they all bots? Remember that actually happened, and brands looked the other way, too! Also, and I can't stress this enough, who cares anyway? Kyle Chayka writes: "There is a certain status that comes from ignoring the usual signs of success online, and an envy by those who can grow a career without the pressure of performing on social media". This article will be quoted in years to come, a moment when someone said what we were all thinking out loud - it's kinda over. Read it here.

Synecdoche, New York and Charlie Kaufman at IFI Dublin on Sunday, Dec 7th

Similar to that other Charli (XCX) and BRAT, how did game-changing screenwriter Charlie Kaufman follow up the modern romantic masterpiece that is Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind? By writing and directing this postmodern puzzler, starring the late, great Phillip Seymour Hoffman. I haven't seen Synecdoche, New York in the cinema since it was released in 2008, and I found it dizzying and perplexing at the time, but, with any Kaufman film, a lot is going on under the hood. I'm very much looking forward to the revisit in December at the IFI, with Mr Kaufman himself in attendance - a Q&A follows the film.

Erol keeps the kids dancing t-shirts

The ultimate electro-clash (the original ridiculous description of a musical genre now stupidly called indie-slease) tee is getting a reissue for its 20th anniversary. Yes, the t-shirt. Maybe not as popular as Choose Life or that Ramones tee that even made it to Pennys, but Erol keeps the kids dancing was a moment, and way ahead of its time with regards to club merch, something that is utterly commonplace now. Still looks cool, right? Link via Erol Alkan's Insta.

The making of Quentin Tarantino's Once Upon a Time... in Hollywood by Jay Glennie

Recently, QT said Kill Bill was the film he was born to make, Inglourious Basterds is his masterpiece, but Once Upon a Time in Hollywood is his favourite. Choosing your fave QT film is a tall order, but if you went with OUATIH, it definitely makes sense to me. Yes, over Pulp Fiction. Anyways, Glennie's deep-dive into the production of the film, interviewing everyone from Brad Pitt to production designer Barbara Ling, from then up-and-comer (now Oscar winner) Mikey Madison to costume designer Ariana Philips, is a must for any fans of the film. There are too many BTS shots to mention! This book will be under many a Christmas tree. And Glennie's doing one for every Tarantino movie!

Sezane pop-up at BT Dublin

I can only compare the opening weekend of French clothing brand Sezane - their pop-up just landed in Brown Thomas on Grafton Street - to the launch of the Balmain collab with H&M at College Green. Exciting, almost intense, a shopping moment i haven't seen in a while here. I have it from reliable sources that it was the biggest opening for Sezanne anywhere! Wowzers. Check out their timeless pieces on the 3rd floor of BT.

The Marty Supreme Zoom Call

A friend of mine who works as a strategist said she couldn't get through the first 90 seconds of this post-modern marketing spoof Zoom call; it was all too real! I don't live in a world where blue-sky thinking is anything but a joke, but I can see how triggering it must be for my marketing friends. I find the stunt - Timothee Chalamet brainstorms tactics for forthcoming film release with a bunch of execs - delicious in every way. Culmination. Integration. Fruitionizing... Round of applause, he certainly is thinking outside the box. This will circle back to an A24 t-shirt soon.

Bold Luxury: Bob Mackie, Stage Glamour & The Couture Edit @ Museum of Style Icons, Newbridge

After debuting at The Carlyle Hotel in NYC, then crossing the Atlantic for the V&A in London, Newbridge is the only place in the world that the pubic can go in and have a look at this incredible Bob Mackie collection - for free, I may add - before their auction in Beverly Hills on Dec 3rd! Having designed such timeless and iconic pieces for Cher, Tina Turner and many more, Mackie has recently had a new lease of life through Miley Cyrus, Sabrina Carpenter and Taylor Swift, who have all drawn on Mackie's archive.

The David McWilliams Podcast live from Kilkenomics with Kyla Scanlan

Best known as the creator of the term 'vibecession theory; and her social videos, Scanlan has now written the book In This Economy, aiming to help people better understand economics with an authentic, non-judgmental voice. She and DMW discuss how A) the US is turning into a casino economy and B) the US is probably betting a little too big on AI… amongst many other things. She is clearly super smart, but talks in a normal, easy-to-understand voice that even I can understand. A bit like DMW. I enjoyed it!
