It was always going to take something extraordinary to tempt Daniel Day Lewis back onto the big screen...
And so, eight years after his last work in Phantom Thread, the three-time Oscar winner is back with his new film, Anemone, which he co-wrote with his son Ronan Day Lewis, and which Ronan also directs
In an exclusive Irish interview, Sinéad spoke to Daniel and Ronan about the project and what it was like to work as father and son, but also as actor and director - listen above.
The film tells the story of Ray and Jem, two brothers played by Daniel Day Lewis and Sean Bean. Ray is a recluse, living in self-inflicted solitude in remote woodland, in his attempt to deal with his many demons... But splendid isolation can't go on forever, and Sean Bean’s Jem seeks out Ray in an effort to connect with his brother and force him to face up to his present and his past, which we learn, is haunted by his time as a British Army soldier during the Troubles in in the North. The story explores complex dynamics of brotherhood, fatherhood and the never-ending impact of conflict.
