POETRY: JESSICA TRAYNOR

Jessica Traynor's latest collection New Arcana explores grief, bad boyfriends and the power of female friendship through readings of the Tarot and Tim Burton movies. Moving from teenage friendship and destructive relationships towards a tangling with the realities of family life, domesticity, and desire, this collection of poems builds into a heartbroken letter to a dear friend (personified in the poems as 'lydia deetz’) who died by suicide. This is a book that celebrates both the holding on, and the letting go. Read our review here (Bloodaxe, out now)

STREAMING: CHAD POWERS

After a career-ending game, Russ Holliday has to throw a Hail Mary and reinvent himself as South Georgia's new quarterback, Chad Powers... Glenn Powell might be one of the hottest movie stars on the block these days, courtesy of roles in Top Gun: Maverick, Hitman, Twisters and Anyone But You - he's also smart enough to know that all the cool kids have a hit TV show in their back pocket these days, hence his small-screen starring debut in this amiable sports comedy, which should go down a treat with all the Ted Lasso fans out there (Disney+, episodes weekly)

MUSIC: GLENN BEVERLY COPELAND

Now in his 80s, the black trans elder and visionary musician behind the cult classic Keyboard Fantasies has received long-overdue acclaim for his genre-defying synth compositions and deeply spiritual songwriting. For his Irish live debut, he will be joined by life partner and theatre artist, writer and eco-poet Elizabeth Glenn-Copeland - this might just be the gig of the year (Button Factory, Dublin, October 7th)

PODCAST: DESERT ISLAND DRESS

The award-winning podcast returns, continuing its unique exploration of the clothes that shape our lives. Inspired by Desert Island Discs, it invites guests to choose four garments that carry deep personal meaning — weaving together memory, culture, and storytelling through clothing. Launching the new season is fashion journalism's most distinctive voices, How To Spend It editor Jo Ellison (All podcast platforms, episodes weekly)
